Questions
Curb Cutting FAQ
What is curb cutting?+
Curb cutting lowers a section of existing concrete curb to road level with a horizontal curb saw. The cut is flush with the gutter, so vehicles can drive over it smoothly. It is how most driveway widenings and new driveway entrances are made in the GTA.
Do I need a permit to widen my driveway?+
In most GTA municipalities, yes. Each city regulates driveway width and requires approval before a curb is lowered, and the permit is issued to the property owner. We cut to the width your approval allows.
Do you handle the permit for me?+
No. The permit is between the property owner and the municipality, and the application has to come from you. Once it is issued, send us a copy and we schedule the cut to match the approved width.
How much does curb cutting cost?+
Residential widenings are priced by the length of the cut plus a minimum charge that covers bringing the saw and crew to your street. Send the address, a photo of the curb and the width you need and we will quote it quickly, usually without a site visit.
How long does a residential curb cut take?+
Most residential widenings are finished the same morning. The cutting itself takes well under an hour for a typical widening, plus setup, marking and cleanup.
Do you also pave or widen the driveway itself?+
No. We cut the curb. Asphalt, interlock and the apron between the curb and your existing driveway are done by your paving or landscape contractor, and we regularly coordinate timing so the curb is cut before they arrive.
Do you cut curb for commercial and municipal projects?+
Yes. The same purpose-built saw handles commercial entrances, loading access, accessibility ramps and high-volume municipal road widening, and the horizontal cut works just as well on bridge curbs, parapets and barrier walls during rehabilitation. Traffic control is coordinated with the project team.
